Presentation: Effective Discipline
This presentation addresses the highly contentious issue of administering discipline in a fair, transparent and equitable manner, all in accordance with good Industrial Relations practices. Discipline administration is also an extremely sensitive organizational issue, since in many instances, action is taken against employees who are familiar with, and would have developed working relationships with colleagues, superiors and HR over a period of many years. Also, if it is perceived that discipline is not dispensed in an equitable and unbiased manner, low employee morale and an adverse industrial relations climate can emerge, creating a nightmare for HR professionals!
At the end of this presentation, participants would be able to:
Understand HR’s role and responsibilities in discipline administration.
Differentiate between acute and chronic poor performance.
Effectively use ‘due process’ in the administration of discipline.
Understand the many reasons for poor performance among employees.
Appreciate and effectively utilise the various approaches to discipline.
Understand the concept of progressive discipline.
